"Mother of the Americas"
Before Isabella got the crown, she had little formal education. She learned about what ladies and girls did in her time, like needle work.At the age of three, her father,King John II of Castile died, so her mother had to take care of her. By the age of 15, Isabella has educated herself enough to be a successful leader. Her first marriage with Alfonso V of Portugal didn't last very long.About an hour later, she divorced him, because she thought she could rule Castile on her own. After she got handed the throne in 1468, Isabella figured out that she needed a strong man to help her rule, but it wasn't exactly a perfect match. On October 19, 1469, Isabella married King Ferdinand of Spain by force.
